What is Emerson Effect

The Emerson effect is a phenomenon that occurs in plants when they are exposed to both short and long wavelengths of light(Red and Infrared). This effect leads to an increase in the rate of photosynthesis, resulting in better plant growth.

Back in 1957, a scientist named Robert Emerson discovered that exposing plants to only one type of light, either short or long wavelengths, caused their photosynthesis efficiency to decrease. But when he exposed them to a mix of both types of light, the efficiency of photosynthesis went up.

The reason behind this is that light activates chlorophyll molecules in plant cells, which then produce energy. This energy is passed on to the next system in the process, which also produces energy. These two systems work together to enhance the efficiency of photosynthesis and help convert light energy into energy that plants can use to grow.

So if you want to grow healthy plants, it's important to provide them with a mix of short and long wavelengths of light. This will activate the two different photosystems and enhance the efficiency of photosynthesis, resulting in better plant growth.
